Registration is now open for the 46th Annual AHES Conference

Registration is now open for the 46th Australian Health Economics Society Conference to take place on 11 & 12 September 2025, Canberra, ACT, Australia. We are delighted to have Professor Cam Donaldson (Australian National University) and Professor Sara Markowitz  (Emory University) deliver the keynote presentations.

 

Professor Cam Donaldson
Professor Cam Donaldson FRSE is Emeritus Yunus Chair at Glasgow Caledonian University, where he founded the Yunus Centre for Social Business & Health (2010) and served as Pro Vice Chancellor Research (2016-21). He is also Professor of Health Economics at Australian National University. Cam previously held the Health Foundation Chair at Newcastle University, the Svare Chair at University of Calgary and a professorship at University of Aberdeen. Before going Aberdeen, Cam was a lecturer at the University of Sydney. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and eight books over the course of his career. His work has been recognised through the award of senior investigatorships from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the UK’s National Institute for Health Research and over £30m in competitive research funding. In 2024, Cam was listed by Research.com in the top 300 Economics and Finance Scientists (32 in the UK) all-time by citation and publications. In 2022, he was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh

Professor Sara Markowitz 
Professor Sara Markowitz is the Winship Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Economics at Emory University. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Rollins School of Public Health, and is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economics Research. Dr. Markowitz’s research interests focus on how public policies affect health outcomes, health behaviors, and healthcare markets. She is extensively published in both general interest and specialty academic journals, and is a frequent presenter at universities, academic conferences, and policy seminars. She served as an editor of the Southern Economic Journal and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Health Economics and Review of Economics of the Household. Her research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Markowitz has won numerous research and teaching awards. She received her PhD in Economics in 1998 from the Graduate Center, City University of New York.

The early bird registration deadline is 28th July 2025. Conference registration fee includes access to both conference days. Please note that group registration is not possible. All registration fees are in current Australian Dollars and include GST. Fees are non-refundable. Existing members need to register for the conference using their AHES membership email address. If your membership has expired, please renew your membership first on our AHES website to benefit from the discounted registration fees for members. If your membership is valid, you can still purchase a 1-year AHES membership during the registration process for $50 to extend your membership benefits.

Australian Health Economics Doctoral Workshop

The 14th Australian Health Economics Doctoral Workshop (AHED) will take place on 10th September 2025 (the day before the start of the AHES conference) at the Australian National University. We would welcome your attendance to support this workshop, which can be confirmed when you register for the conference.

The aim of the workshop is to gather PhD students in health economics for an exchange of knowledge with some of the most senior leaders in the field of health economics in Australia. Students will have the opportunity to engage in high level discussion with experts in the field of health economics as well as network with fellow PhD students.

Attendance at the AHED workshop is free, but registration is essential. Please register for the AHED workshop during the AHES conference registration process.
