Keynote: Professor Michael Drummond. Panel: Dr Neale Fong, Dr Matt Anstey, Ms Rebecca Brown, Adj A/Prof Learne Durrington

In the late 1990s the United Kingdom (UK) made a considerable investment in health services research, a major component of which was health technology assessment (HTA). A major feature of the HTAs conducted has been economic analysis, assessing the relative cost-effectiveness of health care treatments and programmes.

This presentation assesses whether this investment has contributed to the sustainability of health care in the UK, how the impact of research can be enhanced and whether there are any lessons for other countries.
